Maxine …
Sunday, February 17th, 2008NEVER ENOUGH MAXINE
OK, yes I know this is taking the easy way to do a post, but today is Sunday, I have two extremely hard classes this session, I am tired and Maxine says things so much better than I, so indulge me, please?
“One of my co-workers has an annoying habit: she works! Makes me look bad.”
“The only thing worse than a Monday is a decaffeinated Monday.”
“There should be a support group for women who will not put their dishes in the dishwasher DIRTY”
“A household hint: Stop dusting and you can use your coffee table as a message board.”
“Homemade gifts are the perfect way to say, “I’ve got lots more time than money!”
“I’ve finally found an honest mechanic. He honestly doesn’t know how to fix ANYTHING.”
“Finally, I think conservatives and liberals should move toward the middle of the road. Makes it easier to run ‘em over.”
As I said, Maxine says it much better than I … except for …”Y’all come back, ya’ hear!”
WordPress 2.3.2
Friday, February 1st, 2008So far, it is terrific! It will be fun learning what is new, where things are and if my blog content improves! JK, I know the blog content is MY responsibility. And today there is very little because I have been surfing from one link to another here at 451Press, exploring and learning. I wonder if my Professors will understand in class tonight when I am not prepared? Probably not … maybe, if I show this post I might get extra credit for the advertising!
They liked the plug, but could not justify extra credit. That is okay … but it was worth a try. Anyway, back to WordPress 2.3.2. I like what I have seen so far and I look forward to using the new fixtures … only time will tell if they improve my writing skills!
Remember, “Y’all come back, ya’ hear!”
Today in the ‘country’ …
Thursday, January 24th, 2008it is a true winter day,
crisp and clear with a forecast for colder weather tonight.
WINTER finally made it to South Carolina!

Normally, depression will strike some readers when winter arrives. Why?
The reasons are vast, but most physicians say lack of sunshine/daylight is causing SAD.
Seasonal Affective Disorder sufferers have feelings of sadness, experience lethargy, and fatigue. DO NOT ASSUME it is “winter blues.” SAD is a depression disorder and should be treated. The link above is to the Mayo Clinic site and it has tons of helpful information!
Now it is simple to bask in artificial sunlight in your home or office. Check out this site. LampsUSA

Election 2008
Saturday, January 19th, 2008Our GOP Primary in South Carolina today, Saturday, January 19th.
In previous years, the candidate that wins SC wins the election in November … talk about pressure!
My personal choice is Mike Huckabee. Please check out his web site, http://www.mikehuckabee.com and see what you think. I had the honor of greeting Mr. Huckabee in Florence on Thursday at our airport for a short press junket stop. I must admit I was undecided. However, he represented all the characteristics of the man I want in the White House and his issues are my issues. My decision is now one of pride to be casting my vote for the next President of the United States in 2008, Mike Huckabee!
If you are a registered voter in the US, please exercise this special privilege and vote in your primary and then in the election in November, 2008! EVERY VOTE DOES COUNT.

South Carolina Primary …
Thursday, January 17th, 2008I was undecided until today. I found myself shaking my head “yes” to his comments and clapping like a “mad woman” when he listed his priorities for his time in the White House. I am no longer UNDECIDED. My vote will be for Mike Huckabee, this Saturday, in the South Carolina Primary! If you are a registered voter in South Carolina, please take advantage of this opportunity to put the RIGHT person in the White House. The first step is voting in the Primary in South Carolina to insure Mike Huckabee is on the ballot as a Republican Candidate for President. See for yourself!

2008 … sound good
Thursday, January 3rd, 2008Hi,
It is wonderful to be back on-
line! My iBook needed a new track pad and had to be sent to the Apple MAC hospital … without meeeeee! Oh the horror, the worry, the withdrawal from the Net and the lack of connection with my peeps on-line! Did you miss me as much as I missed you?
We missed New Year’s Eve together … the party, the toast, the kiss!
New Year’s Day … the black-eyed peas, the ham, the greens!
Mine was e.x.c.e.l.l.e.n.t. I hope yours was, too!
2007 was a unique year. Many changes - good and bad, happiness, sadness, love, dislike and hope. Hope that 2008 will be better.
So far, so good! I hope yours is, too!

Where did the time go …
Monday, November 26th, 2007
Only five days left and then it is over until next year. After this experience this year, I understand the snickers when I joyfully exclaimed, “I am posting to two blogs for the month of November!” If I combine the time spent thinking about blogging with the actual posting, heck, I still would not have come close. But, there is always next year … “Y’all come back, ya’ hear!”
Bloggers Unite
Thursday, October 11th, 2007I read this in Blogger Buzz and I thought you might want to participate. Check it out, then let me know if you are going to sign up!
Blogging for the Environment
Bloggers Unite- Blog Action Day October 15, and the theme this year is the environment. If you have a blog and want to join in, all you have to do is use that day to post something related to the environment, in whatever way, shape, or form you prefer. You can pick an environmental issue that has meaning for you and let us know why it’s important. Organize a beach or neighborhood cleanup and tell us about it. If you’re into fiction writing, give us a story with an environmental theme. Have a podcast, video-blog, or photo-blog? Join the fun! The idea here is to have a mass effect on public awareness by sharing as many ideas in as many ways as possible. If you’re game for participating, go register your blog with the 7,000+ other blogs (with 5 million readers!) that are already signed up. Also, see the Blog Action Day blog for more on how bloggers can change the world.
Thanks Graham for the heads up.

A Laugh from “Living Rural”
Tuesday, August 14th, 2007Today I give a laugh for all my retired readers … from a college friend who shared with me.
Of course, you ‘young ones’ might enjoy it, too!
George Carlin (Absolutely Brilliant)
George Carlin ’s Views on Aging
Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we’re kids? If you’re less than 10 years old, you’re so excited about aging that you think in fractions.
“How old are you?” “I’m four and a half!” You’re never thirty-six and a half. You’re four and a half, going on five! That’s the key!!
You get into your teens, now they can’t hold you back.
You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead.
“How old are you?” “I’m gonna be 16!” You could be 13, but hey, you’re gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life . . . you BECOME 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony. YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!!
But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk! He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There’s no fun now, you’re just a sour-dumpling. What’s wrong? What’s changed?
You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you’re PUSHING 40. Whoa! Put on the brakes, it’s all slipping away. Before you know it, you RE ACH 50 and your dreams are gone.
But wait!!! You MAKE IT to 60. You didn’t think you would!
So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE IT to 60.
You’ve built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it’s a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!
You get into your 80s and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; youTURN 4:30 ; you REACH bedtime and it doesn’t end there. Into the 90s, you start going backwards; “I Was JUST 92.”
Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. “I’m 100 and a half!”
May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!
HOW TO STAY YOUNG
1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay “them.”
2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.
3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. “An idle mind is the devil’s workshop.” And the devil’s name is Alzheimer’s.
4. Enjoy the simple things.
5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.
6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person, who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.
7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it’s family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever.
Your home is your refuge.
8. Cherish your health : If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.
9 Don’t take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county; to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.
10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.
AND ALWAYS REMEMBER :
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
And if you don’t send this to at least 8 people - who cares? But do share this with someone. We all need to live life to its fullest each day!!
Happy aging … “Y’all come back, ya’ hear.”
First Week of Class Done!
Wednesday, July 25th, 2007YAY ME, I did it … the “it” is completing my first week of class at AIU Online. I’m taking BUS 105, finished two assignments (on TIME, hard to believe, I know) and the second week is underway. I’m thoroughly enjoying the experience, meeting people from across the country and finding out my brain still works.
You may be wondering why I chose AIU … it’s online, all classes are archived, i can go in my PJ’s, my own time schedule (I’m still working on my time management!), material is covered thoroughly but quickly and I’ll have the first part of my degree in August, 2008.
I’m getting out even less now, classes take up more time. Back isn’t doing very good this week. Anyway, just wanted to catch you up! Remember to pray for my daughter on Thursday … she is having her thyroid removed.
OBTW: I made an A on each assignment!
“Y’all come back, ya’ here!”
“We’re Having a Heat Wave …”
Thursday, July 19th, 2007There’s a song about that, right? I’m not singing it, I promise! My reason for using it, I’m beginning to feel the heat in rural SC AGAIN today. It’s such a problem right now. It seems it’s all I think about and write about. In fact, I’m beginning to feel like a weather woman, how sad is that? No offense meant to weather people, male or female.
When the temperature stays like this and you add the humidity with have here, you have no choice but to stay inside near the AC with a cold drink in your hand! Leaving not much to do. So, I thought I’d send a little humor your way from a my buddy, Mona …
of course, as you can see … it did not work! I’ve got to take a 451Press posting class … I tried!
Waiting
Thursday, June 7th, 2007Today was a day of “waiting”
… for word that my daughters made their flight from Boston
… that the flight was on time
… driving to MYR airport to meet their flight … tourists and their crazy driving!
… to eat lunch
… to get home
… to hear from my youngest (21, as of 6/4), left behind in ME
… YAY, she did get the second job with Lane Bryant!
… to find out when a doctor appointment was scheduled for daughter #3
… did her hubby kill a hog while hog huntin’?
… is my ankle sprained or a slight hairline fracture … I’ll explain in another post
… to connect to online help with my Internet provider’s technical support, for 2 hours (I know, unreal, but my ankle was elevated and I really didn’t have anything else to do … RIGHT!)
… to eat the wonderful plate of country cookin’ my hubby was bringing from his monthly Wednesday night Men’s Supper Club … yum … WORTH the WAIT!
… to finish this post
… to put my tired self to bed.
And I thought I didn’t have anything to say today … except,
“Y’all come back, ya’ hear!”
flights, airports - MYR, grown children, driving, Lane Bryant, Internet, country cooking, hunting, Boston, Maine, sprains, tech support
