Hot and Humid

Saturday, July 7th, 2007

It’s to hot and humid to do anything but sit inside with the AC on high … would someone tell my hubby, please?

He’s decided this is the spring/summer he will do all the landscaping we’ve put off over the years. Granted the yard is looking good and I really appreciate his hard work, but I sit and worry is he going to succumb to the heat! Read about heat exhaustion and heat stroke here: Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke

My hubby is sixty and I worry. All of us over fifty should really be careful and remember to take frequent breaks, drink plenty of fluids (water is best) and wear long sleeve white shirts. The white shirts help to keep you cooler by letting the air circulate, pull the wetness away from you and protect you from the sun …. dryshirt: DRYSHIRT - White long sleeve- UPF 40

I guess my point is be careful, work wisely in the sun, stay hydrated, use sun screen and wear the proper clothing. The shirt above is a good one to try! Happy yard work and remember - “Y’all come back, ya’ hear!”

When It Rains It POURS

Sunday, July 1st, 2007

Gosh, darn it, when is it going to let up?

Unfortunately, I’m not talking about precipitation. I’m talking about LIFE CRISIS; one after another, over and over, day in and day out? Our family has been deluged with life’s downs for months. Heck, it’s starting to get to me. Deep down inside. Doubt. Why? When will it stop? Can we take much more of this … pain and suffering?

I don’t have the answers. I don’t think it has a thing to do with living rural. It’s just life … plain old every day living … with the good days and the bad days. It seems the bad out number the good by about 4 to 1. My health problems, my daughter’s health problems (in the hospital now, after emergency surgery on Friday) and our financial worries have hit hard. I’m asking for your prayers (we do that a lot living in the country) and insight.

Also, your understanding when there’s not a post. I’m doing the best I know how with the time I have each day and on some days, my best will be elsewhere.

Hanging in there.

Recovering …

Monday, June 25th, 2007

It’s Sunday afternoon sliding into evening. It’s been hot and humid with thunder booming out every now and then. No weather advisory for severe weather … yet.

Our small rural church has a new minister - Methodists do that - switch every two to four years. Keeps us from getting bored!

Funny ad on the back of a local cookbook, The Best of Cecil’s World, our small rural IGA selling NEW YORK cheesecake! Well, I thought it was funny.

Still being in recovery mode from surgery has caused a lot of TV watching. Today a marathon of Party of Five … y’all do remember it, don’t you? Let me know: did you watch it? like it? hate it? I’ve watched “The Good Shepherd,” “Birth,” and next up - “Insomnia.”

Still have forms due for AIU.

I thought living in the country was tough when still mobile and driving. Yikes, take away the ability to leave the ol’ home place and you soon realize how … wonderful Living Rural can be! I know, you thought I was going to complain. Not me, not this time!

“Y’all come back, ya’ hear!”

Where Have I Been?

Saturday, June 23rd, 2007

“Where have I been?”

… finding out that back surgery was not conducive to sitting at the computer for long hours, especially since I was told that I had a limit of 20 minutes “sitting up” time. I realize this post is off topic, but thought some of you might have missed me and wondered ‘where I had been.’ On Friday, June 15, I had laparoscopic lumbar decompression surgery at L 4&5, to relieve the pressure on the fluid in my spinal cord caused by stenosis. So there! I had/have a medical excuse to be out!

I hope this absence has not caused you to look elsewhere for your Living Rural “fix!”

Country Gal has entered the building and says, “Y’all come back, ya’ hear!”
